Charlie's basketball career began at Riverside University High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He played all four years for Riverside, two of those years being a key player on their varsity team. He ended his high school career averaging 12.4 ppg, 1.8 apg, and 3.0 rpg.
After high school Charlie brought his game to the next level after he accepted an offer to go and play for Montana State University. After a year of working out with Montana State, Charlie was presented with a larger opportunity and a two-year scholarship from Iowa Western Community College located in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was a two year starter and finished averaging 12.8 ppg, 4.0 rbg, 2.0 apg, and 2.0 spg. After IWCC he received an offer to play for the University of South Dakota located in Vermillion. He started both his junior and senior season and led the team in scoring both years he was there. Charlie finished at USD averaging 21.0 ppg in conference, 18.7 ppg overall, 4.0 rpg, 2.0 apg, and 2.0 spg.
From the time Charlie set foot on a basketball court, his number one goal was to make the NBA. The summer of 2012 consisted of intense training at the prestigious IMG Academy located in Sarasota, FL as well as traveling across the country to 14 different NBA workouts. As draft day closed in, Charlie was fairly confident he had a fair shot of being drafted considering he had received good feedback from each NBA workout as well as posessing a fairly high stock. Like many hopeful prospects, disappointment set in as Draft day came to a close and his name was not called. Soon after the last name was called that night, he was offered a roster spot on the Orlando Magic's summer league team.
Summer League 2012
Charlie came ready to make his mark in the 2012 AirTran Airways Orlando Pro Summer League. Although he faced limited court time, he was able to take advantage of whatever he was given to make a buzz. Orlando Sentinel considered him the most productive player during the Boston Celtics versus Orlando Magic game where he scored 14 points in 13 minutes on 6-7 field goals. During this notorious game, he also pulled an NBA worthy crossover on Boston Celtic's Jamar Smith and hit the jump shot sending anyone who was watching into a state of shock. Charlie was able to end his summer league experience averaging 8.0 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.0 spg and 1.0 bpg. After Summer League, Charlie faced the decision on whether to accept one of the three invitations to NBA training camp or to accept one of several overseas offers.
As summer of 2012 came to a close Charlie made the decision to accept an overseas offer to play for Tezenis, a professional basketball team located in Verona, Italy. Throughout the entire season lead his team in scoring and steals. From the start he averaged 14.6 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.2 apg and 2.0 spg. He ended the regular season averaging 17.1 ppg as well as remaining consistent with 2.0 sph along with other stats. He lead his team into the first series of the play offs where he ended with 10.8 ppg within that series.
During the Summer of 2013 Charlie worked out with the Portland Trailblazers. He has recently signed with the Miami Heat for training camp.
